Building a strong resume is your first step towards employment
Building a strong resume is your first step towards employment
Quick summary: This prompt flips the usual approach to AI resume writing. Instead of asking AI to write your resume, you ask it to think like the hiring manager reading it, someone who's screened thousands of resumes and knows exactly what makes one worth an interview. Below is the full 4-step prompt: identify what the hiring manager wants to see, write the resume, prep likely interview questions, then proofread.
Some time ago, I posted an article on LinkedIn that turned out to be my most successful post, receiving the highest impressions among all my content on that platform.
Encouraged by that response, I've decided to continue the conversation and share another essential insight for crafting a resume that really helps candidates get hired.
This time, it's a prompt built around a simple shift in perspective: instead of asking AI to write a resume for you, you ask it to think like the person who'll actually be reading it, a hiring manager with years of experience deciding who gets an interview and who gets passed over. Most resume advice focuses on what you want to say about yourself. This flips it to what they're trained to look for, which is a very different filter.
If you haven't read Part 1 yet, start here. It covers the foundation: structuring your header, writing a summary that hooks recruiters, and building work experience that shows results instead of just duties.
This time, we're building on that. Let's get into it, here is the prompt 👇

📌 You are a Job Hiring Expert in [Type the field you're applying in]. I want you to use all of your resume analyzing experience and why you selected certain resumes over others and then using that specific information that only a job onboarding person would know, write me a resume that will help me secure this job. Use all the knowledge you gained over the past 10 years of selecting people to interview after seeing their resumes.
I will provide you with all the information about my work experience, educational background, skills, and any relevant certifications or awards, also provide you with the description of the job I'm applying for, including job title, responsibilities, and required qualifications and why do I think I'll be a perfect fit for this job.
Here's my information:
Work Experience and Qualifications: [Provide a detailed list of your work experience, educational background, skills, and any relevant certifications or awards]
Job Description: [Provide a detailed description of the job you're applying for, including the company name, job title, responsibilities, and required qualifications]
Why do I think I'll be a perfect fit for this job: [Provide as many details as you possibly can]
My LinkedIn Profile: [Copy and paste your entire LinkedIn profile, don't add any link]
Based on this information, create a resume that highlights the skills and experiences that align most closely with the job requirements. Emphasize the value I can bring to the company and how my qualifications make me a strong candidate for the position. The language should be formal, concise, and positive.
Step 1: Identify What the Hiring Manager Wants to See
Focus on just Step 1 now, which is to identify specific things this hiring manager wants to see in my resume that'll make it almost impossible for him to reject my proposal. Be extremely specific here and use a little bit of psychology here. OUTPUT: Markdown format with # Headings, ## H2, ### H3, + bullet points.
Step 2: Write the Resume
Now move to Step 2 and, using these elements, write me a professional resume that will make it almost impossible for the person reading it to reject it. Keep the tone conversational and professional with a little humanized touch to it.
Step 3: Prep the Proposal Questions
Now move onto Step 3 and craft responses to the three proposal questions that I'll likely be asked when submitting this application.
Step 4: Proofread
Final Step 4 Proofread my tailored resume for any errors in spelling, grammar, or formatting. 📌
After you're done, proofread it for any errors in spelling, grammar, or formatting. Pay special attention to consistency in style and detail. Consider asking a friend or using professional services to review your resume. This ensures it is polished and professional. Now start and take this step by step.
